English language

The English Language portion of the Class 10 curriculum emphasizes developing the pupils’ language abilities. This section’s major goal is to assist students in developing their written and vocal English language proficiency. This section covers the following subjects:

Students are expected to read passages and respond to questions based on the provided material in reading comprehension lessons. They gain reading proficiency, vocabulary growth, and comprehension improvement through this practice.

In this part, students learn how to create many sorts of essays, including argumentative, narrative, and descriptive ones. Also, they learn how to create reports, letters, and notifications. This section’s major goal is to aid pupils in improving their writing abilities, including grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure.

There are several different grammar-related issues covered in this area, including as tenses, modals, active and passive voice, reported speech, and subject-verb agreement. This section’s goal is to assist students in learning the principles of English grammar.

Students may learn more terms and their meanings by using the vocabulary area. Pupils are taught how to interpret word and phrase meanings using contextual cues. Exercises are also provided in this part to assist students in understanding new vocabulary and applying it to their writing and speaking.

English literature

Students are introduced to a variety of literary genres in the English Literature component of the Class 10 curriculum, including fiction, drama, and poetry. This section’s goal is to assist students in appreciating and analyzing various literary genres. This section covers the following subjects:

Students are exposed to a variety of poetry written by various poets. Pupils gain knowledge about how to evaluate the poetry’s language, topics, and poetic methods. Essays on the poetry the students have studied are also expected.

Novel excerpts and short tales may be found in the prose area. Pupils gain knowledge of character, topic, and writing style analysis. Students also learn how to write essays that analyze the text they have read.

In this lesson, students learn about plays written by various playwrights. Pupils gain knowledge of how to evaluate the plays’ topics, theatrical devices, and characters. Critical essays on the plays they have read are another assignment for students.

Supplemental Reading

From a list of assigned literature, students must read a novel or a biography. This part aims to motivate pupils to read and evaluate materials on their own. Writing analytical essays on the materials they have studied is another requirement for students.

How Is The English Knowledge Assessed In Class 10 Students?

Formative Assessment (FA) and Summative Assessment are the two components of Class 10 English evaluations in India (SA). The Formative Assessment is done all year long and consists of exams, projects, and assignments. FA’s mission is to provide pupils ongoing feedback so they may develop their abilities. A written test is part of the summative assessment, which is completed at the conclusion of the academic year. The purpose of the SA is to evaluate students’ subject-matter expertise and comprehension.
